World Vision 30 Hour Famine raises funds for programs that tackle hunger and other critical problems linked directly to poverty, including water shortages, children affected by conflict, and by HIV and AIDS. The estimated number of undernourished people in the world: 963 million
As of 2008, the number of children who die each day from largely preventable causes: More than 24,000
The number of children under the age of five that die each year: Nearly 9 million
The number of children that will die from malnutrition (or hunger-related causes) within the next 30 hours: More than 10,000
Percentage of underweight children under the age of five worldwide: 25 percent
Number of people who die each year of water-related diseases: 5 million (about 1.8 million are children)
