Canadian Children Experience Emergency Camp
June 16, 2005
Mississauga, ON—On June 16, approximately 100 elementary school children will be integrated into a World Vision emergency camp. The youth will have a chance to experience a day in a life of child who has been displaced by an emergency and coping with trauma. The event will highlight the nature of World Vision's work with children during an emergency on the eve of the six-month anniversary of the Southeast Asia tsunami.
World Vision program workers will manage stations similar to ones that were in operation in Southeast Asia. The programs include identification of separated children, instruction on sanitary practices and how to obtain clean water, provision of health care, and counsel for children dealing with trauma. The space will also have areas for other life necessities including play. This event should help remind Canadians that rehabilitation and emergency work is ongoing in several countries.
World Vision is an international Christian humanitarian relief and development organization, working in more than 90 countries helping approximately 85 million people each year.
