World Vision Responds to Peru Earthquake
August 16, 2007

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - World Vision will provide relief supplies to children and families hardest hit by the powerful earthquake in Peru, and it is also working with the Peruvian government to arrange an air drop of much needed supplies such as medicine and blankets.

An 8.0 earthquake hit the coast of Peru, killing more than 330 people and injuring hundreds. World Vision is working to get relief supplies to the affected zone via routes from the northern part of the affected area and is also attempting to get them in from the southern routes. The supplies should reach the earthquake-hit areas sometime this evening.

"We are especially concerned for children who may be without shelter or warm clothing in the winter weather," said Dave Toycen, president and CEO of World Vision Canada.

World Vision is accepting donations through our website or through our 1-866-595-5550 number to help those affected by the earthquake. Canadians sponsor 13,900 children in Peru and as of now, they are reported to be safe.

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Motivated by our Christian faith, we serve all people regardless of religion, race, gender or ethnicity.
