World Vision Hurricane Response in Latin America
May 20, 2005
Mississauga, ON—Hurricane season has begun early this year with tropical depression “Adrian.” World Vision has activated its rapid response teams and is readying supplies for a potential response to the effects of Adrian and other storms throughout the season.
Communities where World Vision works are in the path of the storm and staff members are concerned about the possibility of heavy rain, which could produce flash floods and devastating mud slides over the mountainous terrain of Central America.
In anticipation of the hurricane season, the agency has pre-positioned emergency food, shelter, and medical supplies along with its rapid response program specialists. Canadian staff members are currently in El Salvador.
Affected World Vision project countries include El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
World Vision is an international Christian humanitarian relief and development organization, working in more than 90 countries helping approximately 85 million people each year.
