May 11, 2005

Dave Toycen, President and CEO of World Vision Canada Receives Honourary DegreeMississauga, ON—Wycliffe College presented Dave Toycen, president and CEO of World Vision Canada, with the Doctor of Sacred Letters at its convocation ceremony.

Toycen's commitment to holistic ministry along with his dedication to advocacy and policy work make him a fitting candidate for this honorary degree. The value Wycliffe places on excellence in ministry, scholarship, and Christian leadership are what led the college to Toycen, whose life and works are motivated by his personal devotion to Jesus.

"Dave Toycen's passionate commitment to social engagement reminds evangelicals of something important in their tradition, indeed, in the gospel itself," said Reverend Canon Dr. George Sumner, Principal of Wycliffe College.

As head of Canada's largest humanitarian relief and development agency, Toycen believes it is critical to give Canadians the opportunity to identify with and serve those living in poverty through personal commitment, prayer, and advocacy.

"For decades, Canadians have been impacting and improving lives through partnership with World Vision," said Toycen. "I am privileged to be a part of a ministry that is not only changing the lives of children and their families, but that is also touching the hearts of the many individuals responding to God's call to support those in need around the world."

Toycen's career with World Vision has spanned more than 30 years. During this time, he has travelled to some of the world's poorest and most desperate countries and has provided on-site assessment and support during nearly every major humanitarian disaster in the past two decades. More than $2 billion has been raised in aid and development for the poor under his leadership. Toycen is a member and Rector's Warden at Trinity Anglican Church in Streetsville, Ontario.

World Vision is an international Christian humanitarian relief and development organization, working in more than 90 countries helping approximately 85 million people each year.
