World Vision’s Manitoba 2,000 Campaign finishes over the top
September 22, 2004
Mississauga, Ont. - Thanks to the generosity of individuals and families in the Winnipeg area, World Vision Canada is able to announce that its Manitoba 2,000 Campaign exceeded its goal by 150 sponsors, with many pledge forms still coming in. Sponsorship provides children in developing countries with such basics as clean water, nourishing food, and access to education and health care. The benefits of sponsorship can ultimately transform an entire community.
"Manitobans have been amazing," said Dave Toycen, president of World Vision Canada."I know that God will bless many children and families around the world through their generosity and compassion. We want to thank everyone who made the life-changing decision to help a child in need."
Premier Gary Doer and Winnipeg mayor Sam Katz spoke at the World Vision mid-campaign event at the Forks Market Place on Aug. 24. Many celebrities who took part in the campaign had a chance to visit World Vision programs in Africa and Latin America including on-air local personalities, Sylvia Kuzyk and Ron Able who where able to witness first-hand just how much sponsorship can help a community.
Other supporters included local child entertainer Fred Penner who recently returned from World Vision programs in Zambia, artist associate Fresh I.E., author Tony Campolo and country music singer Michelle Wright who visited Manitoba sponsored children in Honduras. As campaign spokespersons, they went above and beyond their call to encourage Manitobans to help World Vision reach its goal of finding sponsors for 2,000 needy children.
Although the 2,000 Campaign is now over, those wishing to sponsor a child can still do so by calling 1-877-34-CHILD (24453) or by visiting the World Vision Canada website at www.worldvision.ca
