20 th annual Polar Bear Dip benefits World Vision's
emergency relief efforts in Southeast Asia
Mississauga, ON, Dec. 31, 2004 - A New Year's Day tradition, the annual World Vision Polar Bear Dip traditionally raises funds to provide clean water in developing countries. This year, in light of the Boxing Day earthquake that sparked tsunamis and wide spread destruction in Southeast Asia, the funds generated will contribute to World Vision's relief efforts in the area.
"These funds are desperately needed," says Bruce Miller, vice-president of World Vision Canada. "Money raised by the Polar Bear Dip will provide people caught in this terrible situation with food, fresh water, clothing, shelter, mosquito nets, and other essentials vital for survival."
More than 400 brave dippers ran into lake Ontario in front of a crowd of 5,000 spectators last year alone. The Polar Bear Dip has raised more than $120,000 for live-saving water programs over the years, with a goal of $20,000 for this year.
