105,000 Goats, Chickens and Buffaloes!
January 05, 2006
Mississauga, ON—
World Vision received more than 105,000 orders for presents from their Gift Catalogue this Christmas season, raising $8.1 million dollars for their work in developing countries. 34,700 hens and roosters, 7,400 medical clinics, 9,100 sets of warm clothing for children and 150 contributions to school-building projects will be delivered because of these gifts.
"The response to the Gift Catalogue this season has been incredible," said Caroline Sausik, World Vision's Gift Catalogue manager. "The growth of the catalogue over the years has truly demonstrated Canadians' generosity. Many shoppers have shared with us how much they appreciate the opportunity to purchase a gift that not only touches the hearts of the people they love but also helps children and their families."
World Vision's Gift Catalogue offers everything from water buffaloes and piglets to water wells and medical supplies. Distributed to needy communities in more than 20 countries, these unique gifts help children and families improve their daily lives. Each gift comes with a card, featuring a photo and a description of the item. The giver can present the card to their friend or loved one personally, have World Vision send it, or print out an e-card immediately if ordering online.
World Vision's Gift Catalogue was first published in 2001, with Canadians purchasing 1,150 gifts valued at $58,000 for families in developing countries. Last Christmas, more than 75,000 gifts were bought from the catalogue, valued at $6 million. World Vision staff members overseas report that the most popular items on children's "wish list" this year include chickens, goats, cows, medical supplies and warm clothing.
