World Vision Statement on Preventing Malaria
April 28, 2005

If we are serious about preventing morbidity and mortality related to malaria, more resources are needed. In Africa, malaria is responsible for the deaths of more children under the age of five than any other disease.

Education on the proper use of medications to treat malaria, provision of insecticide-treated nets, and education on the proper use of nets are key to protection and prevention. This is especially important for pregnant women .

While these interventions are inexpensive, too little money has been made available. The future of nations is dependent upon children who need protection.

We applaud the Canadian International Development Agency's response to funding malaria prevention in sub-Saharan Africa, and expect to see increased funding for programming in Africa, thereby enabling assistance to meet real needs, especially of vulnerable populations.
