World Vision’s Response in Kenya
World Vision has been assisting a network of churches that has organized relief aid for displaced people and those trapped in their homes. The crisis team has linked this network with the UN-led umbrella group of humanitarian agencies and the Kenyan Red Cross Society (KRCS) to ensure a coordinated response to vulnerable populations
Nick Wasunna, Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs representative on the crisis team describes the challenge of moving goods around the country: "Logistics is a challenge - today nothing is working because of the rioting. We are arranging to move our goods with Red Cross tomorrow and we are engaging with UNICEF and WFP for a partnership, along with the Red Cross and the churches."
World Vision Africa Vice President Wilfred Mlay urged regional governments and the Africa Union to support Kenya in its hour of need, calling on leaders of the rival parties in Kenya to exercise restraint and bring an end to the violence. Those with disputes should use negotiation and legal processes to resolve issues, not fighting and threats, he added, in accordance with the January 2 appeal made by the Civil Society groups with World Vision's participation.
