World Vision 6,000 Reasons Global Vigil
In Toronto on November 29, 2007
An estimated 6,000 children lose a parent to AIDS-related illnesses every day. On November 29 and 30, World Vision will recognize these children in our first-ever Global Vigil.
The Global Vigil is a series of events, beginning in Toronto and continuing westward in 17 cities around the world. In each location, participants will read the names of several hundred children who’ve been orphaned by AIDS. As the Vigil progresses, the cumulative number of names will grow until all 6,000 have been read.
During the vigil, the results of a new global public opinion poll conducted by Ipsos Reid for World Vision will be released. The poll compares Canada to other G8 countries with respect to attitudes about the global AIDS crisis.
The Global Vigil begins at 9 a.m. EST on Thursday, November 29 at the CN Tower. It returns to North America at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 30. The final event will be held in New York City.
