World Vision is an international Christian humanitarian aid and development organization working in nearly 100 countries, helping approximately 100 million people in 2007.
Over the course of 51 years, World Vision Canada has developed comprehensive strategies for disaster relief response, long-term community development and advocacy initiatives, to address poverty and injustice.
- World Vision Canada's first office opened its doors in 1957.
- In approximately 192 area development programs (ADPs) in 45 countries around the world, World Vision Canada is partnering with families and communities to create sustainable change. The ADP is a model of community development, providing such things as improved agricultural systems, clean water, improved sanitation, better nutrition, small business loans to promote economic growth, new schools, teacher training and health care programs.
- World Vision is addressing the HIV and AIDS pandemic in developing countries, with a special focus on children. More than 2.3 million children live with HIV or AIDS. Another 15.2 million children have lost parents to the disease. World Vision ensures that area development programs in high prevalence countries include HIV/AIDS programming in prevention, care and advocacy.
- In 2007, World Vision Canada's total revenue was over $350 million.
