Press Release Archive
From frontlines relief during global emergencies to front seats at key political meetings - World Vision is there. This archive tells the story of our continuing work in emergency relief, long-term development and advocacy. The releases in the archive beg questions that become increasingly relevant with each passing year:
- December 1 is World AIDS day. The plight of children orphaned by AIDS is a story increasingly familiar to Canadians. Yet the tale of children living with AIDS themselves is less often told. As of June 2006, only one child in 20 needing HIV treatment was actually receiving it - even when in some cases, the cost of supplying an antibiotic would be only $.03 per day, per child. Does the situation persist today? What are the holdups in providing treatment?
- Note pledges made by world leaders with respect to HIV and AIDS, and read World Vision's consistent appeals for accountability. What progress have we seen since our advocacy work on HIV and AIDS began? How do World Vision staff members cope when the statistics seem insurmountable?
- The 2004 Tsunami in Southeast Asia was the most devastating natural disaster in living memory, killing thousands and affecting millions. Although World Vision had responded to similar disasters, the Tsunami was unprecedented in its scale and scope. Learn how World Vision staffers used every ounce of resourcefulness to meet the need head on.
- For more than four decades, World Vision has provided small, low-interest loans to people living in poverty who lack the necessary collateral to obtain credit from most banks. In the archives, you'll find a press release marking our millionth loan three years ago. What's the business angle to this story? Have these loans had a discernable effect on the economies of the countries in question?
No matter what the story, the World Vision Public Relations team is here to help. Contact us for more story ideas, background, B-roll and to arrange interviews with knowledgeable spokespeople.
