Advocacy at World Vision
We listen to children and families, learning about poverty and oppression firsthand.
We challenge Canada’s government to advocate for children on the international stage.

What we do:
World Vision Canada works for justice for all children—both in Canada and around the world. We strive to remove barriers, allowing each child to enjoy fullness of life. We work to create public policies to protect and support children.
How we do it:
We challenge governments to make and fulfill commitments that address the rights of children.
What it takes:
Painstaking research, persistence and patience. We maintain a constant presence on Parliament Hill, engaging in dialogue with decision-makers.
The process:
We listen to children and families. World Vision staff workers sit on dirt floors, around cooking fires or by sickbeds, hearing the realities of poverty and oppression firsthand. This information forms the basis of our work.
We conduct painstaking contextual research. We consider a country’s history, its economy, its political system and its existing policies. We also consider Canada’s current policy toward the country or issue in question.
We then write the reports and recommendations we’ll take to governments, both at home and abroad.
Examples of our work:
Legislation
: Our team works tirelessly to break down barriers preventing children in Africa from accessing HIV medications.
Diplomacy
: We challenge the Canadian government to use its voice at the UN, on behalf of children in Northern Uganda who have been victimized by 20 years of war.
Development
: Poverty tramples children’s right. Canada has made financial commitments to children around the world. We challenge them to keep these promises.
