World Watch

WorldWatch is a free newsletter offering Canadian church leaders a Christian perspective on what's going on in our world.

Six times a year, World Vision Canada's President, Dave Toycen, provides leaders with up-to-date facts, stories of real people, and links to resources where they can go deeper. All from a Canadian Christian perspective.

In the Latest Edition:

In Canada, it's easy to take food for granted. But Jesus taught us to pray, asking for and giving thanks for the daily bread that sustains us. The fellowship we enjoy as we sit down to a meal contributes to the bonds we form with one another, and to our own sense of emotional and social wellbeing. And participating in the celebration of the eucharist, communion, is a powerful, physical reminder of how God sustains us spiritually.

Scripture records that at the beginning of time, human beings lived in a garden of abundance. It was the fall that set us to working hard for our food. Unfortunately, there are millions of people in our world for whom no amount of hard work is enough to generate adequate food - for themselves or for their children.

The devastating drought and resulting famine in the Horn of Africa brought hunger back to the headlines last summer. This month's WorldWatch explores an appropriate Christian response to the sad reality that so many still go hungry on our planet of plenty.
